Happy New Year!

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heartç and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." ~Proverbs 3:5-6
Dear Family and Friends!
This week was great! We had a great Christmas and had the opportunity to do some caroling for some of the member's friends. It was great! I love the Christmas season and I really did feel the Christmas joy!
This week we also had probably the hardest drop of my mission. Tatiana decided that she wanted to return to her old church. We really tried everything to help her gain a testimony, she was accepting everything that we had taught her, and then she dropped us and asked us not to visit again. It was a really rough time, but we'll continue on searching for the people that the Lord has prepared :)
We haven't heard from Luis or Andrey since Christmas Eve, so that was also a little rough, we've left the invite open, so they can come when they need it.
We are working on finding new people again. Sister Savage and I are working on bettering our street contacts and our teaching skills and i have faith that we will be led to those who are ready to recieve this gospel.
I'm doing good here in Portugal, loving the people and the work! I hope you all have a great week and you remember our Savior.
I love you all!!

NATAL!!!

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
~Luke 2:11

Dearest Family and Friends!!

I am so excited for Christmas this year and the whole Christmas season! Christmas in Europe is quite different than Christmas in America and unfortunately it's not celebrated as much, but it is still a celebration of the birth of our Savior and I couldn't be more happy to share the Christmas spirit!! :)
We have seen so many miracles this week and I've loved it!! We also had our mission Christmas Conference with the whole mission (except the island missionaries) and it was awesome!! I love Christmas!!

Tatiana: She is doing great! She came to church yesterday and she liked it a lot, she believes everything about the restoration and she's been reading in the Book of Mormon every day! She is incredible! Last night she called us and told us that she hadn't felt the Spirit in church and she was really concerned about this, we had a really awesome lesson with her where she prayed for guidance and felt she needed to continue talking to us and go to church next week. She has so much faith and such a strong desire to follow Christ.

Luis and Andrey: THEY ARE AWESOME!! They're 2 brasilian futebol players that are looking for a church! I'm so glad the elders stopped them in the road! They live in our area, so we started teaching them! Luis accepted a baptismal date for the 27th and Andrey said he wanted to talk to his family first, but they both have a super strong desire to follow Christ and do what's right and the ward has already accepted them really well! They are awesome!!

The Lord's hand is in this work. I love being a missionary and I love sharing the gospel. I know that the Lord is preparing people to receive us and when we are worthy and obedient, He will help us find them. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas week and you find someone to share the Love of Christ with!

I love you all!

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen." ~ Moroni 7:48

The Christmas season is coming!! I wish it looked like it though, unfortunately we have no snow in the city of Setubal.. but there are people who decorate for Christmas! So we still get to see some lights in the windows :) We also set up our christmas tree in our apartment.. we found it in a closet, so it's not the best looking tree, but it does have Christmas lights! Haha but that's not what Christmas is all about anyway!

Tatiana: She is incredible!! She has such a great desire to do what is right and she has the goal to bring her whole family back to church! She wasn't able to arrive in church this Sunday because she was with her grandma, so we're hoping she'll be baptized on the 27th of December. She is awesome :)

Miguel: He received the gift of the Holy Ghost yesterday and he's doing great! He went to institute this week and has plans to go every week! He is also already planning on serving a mission! He is awesome! :)

We had our ward Christmas party this week and it was really great! I love this ward a lot! I could stay here forever! The members are really great and they are really supportive of the missionary work. We are doing a lot of finding here and visiting less actives. I love being a missionary and I know this gospel is true. I'm so excited for the Christmas season!! Make sure all of you share the new film the the church has! It is a great way to be a missionary!!

I love you all!!

Temple Groundbreaking!!!!! And Stake Conference!!!!!!

"And they cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually." ~Mosiah 5:2

Dear Family and Friends!

This week was really great! We got to watch the groundbreaking ceremony for the Portugal Temple and we are all very excited for it to be complete in about 3 years or so! I hope to return and be able to visit! :) We also had stake conference which was really great, they talked a lot about missionary work and the self-sufficient (i think that's how you say it in english) program in Europe that the church has implimented, it was really great and I hope to be able to apply what we've learned :)

Miguel: Miguel was baptized yesterday and it was an awesome baptism! He even bore his testimony after the baptism, he is for sure working towards serving a mission too which is awesome!

Tatiana: She is progressing really well! She's reading and praying and has a lot of questions! Her family is super nice and very inviting as well. She is preparing to be baptized on the 20th of December

Nuria: She is the younger sister of the Elder's recent convert, but she lives in the Elder's area, so we'll start teaching her tomorrow. She is super excited and also preparing to be baptized on the 20th. It'll be a white Christmas for us! :)

This week has really been fantastic! Our mission president has made a new rule that we can't speak English, which was really hard at the beginning, but now i'm starting to forget English, so excuse my spelling and grammer mistakes! haha but I still love working here and I especially love the Christmas season! Everyone needs to go watch A Savior is Born!! It's incredible!! Share it with everyone! :)

I love you all!!

I never even missed Thanksgiving!

"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thouh hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." James 2:17-18

Dear Family and Friends!

Yes, I completely forgot about Thanksgiving this week.. I guess we ate chicken for lunch.. so that counts for something? But I am still grateful in the same! :) This week was great! We found an amazing family and came in contact with some old investigators!

Miguel: We came in contact with him again and he is awesome!! He came to the Elder's baptism on Saturday and to church and choir practice yesterday and he is looking forward to his baptism which will be this week or next. He will be such a solid member and missionary.

Mariza and Tatiana: We decided to pass by an less active member that we had met on the street a couple of weeks ago and we met her daughter Tatiana who has so many questions about the gospel and about life. It's way easier to teach someone who has questions, we're really excited to continue working with them :)

I have had a great week! Even though it's getting colder! But I still love Portugal and the people here, I'm so grateful for the opportunity I have to be a missionary. I love this gospel, I know this is the only true church with the power of God to teach and baptize.
Pray for missionary experiences this holiday season!

I love you all!

Fun fact about Portugal, most people don't have chimneys for Santa to come down, so instead he climes up a ladder outside their window. Interesting!

Transfers!!!! Thanksgiving!

"Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day." ~D&C 4:2

Dear Family and Friends!

Suprise! Suprise! We got a call Sunday morning for Sister Landbeck telling her to pack her bags because she's going to the Azores!!! The Islands that we have in our mission! I'm super excited for her! I will be staying here in Setubal and I'll be serving with Sister Savage!! She served in the area right next to mine when I was in Portimão, so I already know her a bit! I'm really excited to serve with her!

Saturnina and Nadina: They are doing well, they weren't able to make it to churchon Sunday, but we'll pass by this week. They are some of the most humble people I've met on the mission and I really hope we can help them come closer to Christ through baptism!

Ivo and Milene: We talked to bishop yesterday and he said that the wedding papers will be processed in 15 days or so, so hopefully we'll have 3 baptisms soon! They are doing so well and are so excited to be baptized.

We are always finding new people, and coming up with new ideas to find them as you'll see in our picture below! I love Setubal and I'm so excited to stay here for Christmas! (Europe doens't celebrate Thanksgiving, so I'm skipping it this year, but I'm still grateful!) Something I'm really excited for is that Sister Savage sings! I hope we will be able to use our talent often to help others feel the Christmas spirit.

I love you all!!

We had a great adventure last P-day with one of our members, we went to the beach and hiked up to a castle to discover that the castle is closed for 2 years! haha but it was still great fun!
We had a "street meeting" in attempt to find some new people, and we actually had quite a bit of success. We set up a table with pamplets and copies of the Book of Mormon. And we sang in the middle of the street! It was great!

"For whosoever will save his life shall loose it: and whosoever will loose his life for my sake shall find it." ~Matthew 16:25

Dear Family and Friends!

This week has been truly fantastic! I find myself truly amazed as I work harder and harder and see the hand of God more and more in this amazing work. I am amazed at how much my testimony of the gospel has grown over the past 9 months or so. I love being here in Portugal and I love being a missionary. We have found a couple of new families to teach and we're really excited!

Saturnina and Nadina: A mother and daughter that have a lot of potential. They have a lot of faith and are very friendly. We're excited to start sharing the gospel with them.

Paulo: We met him, his wife, and his daughter outside their house last week, and we just left a card with them, We didn't even ask if we could come by and share a message or anything, we just told them to call if they needed anything. Then that same night Paulo called us and said he was interested in meeting with us! We met with him in the chapel and had a quick lesson with him, he has a lot of faith and already has a good relationship with God. He's married and has 3 kids! I'm excited to start working with him as well.

Ivo and Milene: Unfortunately we didn't get their marriage papers done in time, so they probably won't be baptized this Saturday, but we're hoping for next! They are such an amazing family and I'm so glad they foudn the gospel. They will stay firm :)

I'm happy to be here as a missionary bringing many souls to the knowledge of their Redeemer. I know I'm changing here and coming closer to Christ, I know that the more I loose my life for Christ's sake, I will find it. I hope I can continue loosing my life for the gospel throughout my whole life. I'm coming to know that missionary work is the most important thing anybody can be doing with their time, not just the missionaries. I want to encourage you all to pray for missionary experiences and then do all you can to have them, talk with EVERYONE about the gospel and always be an example of Christ.

I love you all!!

Batismo!!!

"Yea, and from that time even until now, I have labored without ceasing, that I might bring souls unto repentance; that I might bring them to taste of the exceeding joy of which I did taste; that they might also be born of God, and be filled with the Holy Ghost." ~Alma 36:24

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was amazing! My mind is blown at how much I'm growing and learning, a mission really is incredible.

Juliana: She was baptized on Saturday! It was quite a miracle because when we had passed by her house on friday, she said she wanted to wait one more week to get baptized. We invited her to pray that night and ask God if this was the right decision. Sister Landbeck and I also prayed and the next morning, we both felt that she should be baptized on Saturday, it will only bring blessings and why would we want to wait to receive blessings, right? Fortunately, the Elders had already planned a baptism for Saturday afternoon, so all we had to do was invite Juliana to be baptized! We went over to her house about an hour before the baptismal service was supposed to start and told her how we felt, and she accepted the baptismal invitation without hesitation! So she had a quick interview and was baptized! She was confirmed and recieved the Gift of the Holy Ghost yesterday and she looks so happy! She's passing through a lot of trials, but you can see the light of Christ just glowing in her eyes. I'm so happy she has found the truth.

Ivo and Milene: They are still strong! We started a quit smoking program with Ivo this week. We had a great lesson with them and the Zone Leaders this week and it was awesome! We testified that only with the help of God that he would be able to quit smoking before his baptism and he agreed with us completely and committed to quit smoking by the 14th. He has a lot of faith that he can do it and we're working with him. This family will be such strong members.

I love the mission! I love Setúbal! I really am happy, even though it's hard sometimes. But Salvation never was and never will be easy, it's something we have to work for. But I'm finding that the harder I work, the happier I am. Go read the Book of Mormon and go serve everyone around you!

I love you all!!

"And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face, I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and minde angels round about you, to bear you up." ~D&C 84:88

Dear Family and Friends,

This week has been great! We had divisions with the Sister Training Leaders, I got to serve with Sister Ventura! She was in my zone when I was in Portimão, so it was really great to serve with her! We also had a huge ward/stake halloween dance on Saturday and we had a great turnout of investigators! It's good to show others that we like to have fun :) We also visited a cemetary yesterday for "Dia das Almas" (day of the souls - it's sorta like memorial day) we were able to hand out a couple of Family History pamphlets and Plan of Salvation pamphlets, it was a good day :)

Paula: She is still doing really well, unfortunately she had to help out with a family thing yesterday and was unable to attend church, so she won't be getting baptized this saturday, but we're hoping for the next!

Miguel: He is also doing good! Sister Ventura and I taught him on divisions, and it went really well. He has a lot of really deep questions and ideas that are generally correct, which is really awesome! He has trouble sleeping at night, so so far he hasn't been able to attend church, but we're working with him.

Juliana: We started teaching her last week and she is doing great! She has a baptismal date for this saturday and she's really solid. She's been going through a hard time recently so she really needed the help of the Lord and I'm so glad she found us. She is a really sweet older lady and has a lot of faith.

This week was really fun! We're working in new areas and finding new people! I love working here in Setubal and I know I'm doing the right thing.

I truly love you all!

Templo!!!!!

"We believe in God because of things we know with our heart and mind, not because of the things we do not know." ~Pres. Uchtdorf, 'Be Not Afraid, Only Believe'

Dear Family and Friends!

We had the most wonderful announcement this week! The long-waited groundbreaking for the Portugal Lisbon Temple has been announced!! December 5th!! We are all so excited!! I hope the missionaries will at least get the opportunity to watch a transmition or something, the temple was announced 5 years ago and finally they are starting to build! I'm beyond excited! I hope I can return for the dedication, or at least to visit the temple here :) We had a week full of miracles!

Ivo and Milene: They have finally got their papers ready to get married and they have a date set for November 14th! So their baptism will be on November 21! We are so excited for them! They will be such a wonderful family!

Miguel: We started working with him this week and he was so prepared to receive the gospel! He has a lot of faith and just wants to know the truth! He has confidence that this is the true church of God. He says he's finally found a church that does what the bible says - preach the gospel to the world. He also told us how much he wants to serve a mission, he thinks that he'll be ready to serve in about a year, which is perfect because he'd have to wait a year after his baptism anyway! He is set for the 14th of November!

Paula: We are working with her as well, she is a sweet lady with 2 cute daughters and has a huge heart. She has a great desire to help others. She has a baptism date set for November 7th and we're excited for her!

I've had a great week and I love serving here in Setúbal! I know that this is the restored church of Jesus Christ, I know we have a prophet who leads and directs us in the world today.
I love you all!
Sister Steagall

P.S. I learned a new Portuguese phrase this week: "És um pão!" which directly translates to: "You are a bread!" And apparently it's used to say something like "you are hot/you are a beast/you are strong!" or something like that. Isn't that funny? I thought it was hilarious! You are a bread! I think I might start using it in english.

"Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." ~2 Peter 1:4&8

Dear Family and Friends!

This week was really great! A couple of very interesting things happened as they always do on the mission :)

1. We were walking along the street and we saw a man carrying a large picture frame, so of course we offer to help him like any missionary would and he accepted! Which is not a common thing in Portugal! So we followed him in this door underneath a large apartment building, where there were a couple little offices there. We asked him if he had every visited the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he responded with "have you ever visited my paper factory?" We were a little confused, but he opened up the door next to him and it lead to this huge underground paper factory!! We had no idea it was there! There's a huge paper factory underneath setubal! That no one would ever know was there! But we do now! Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me.. so we didn't get a picture! But it was still a great adventure!

2. We had the opportunity to visit a gypsy camp this week! Gypsies don't really exist in America as far as I'm aware, but they are all over Europe. Some actually have houses, but most of them live in little man-mad shacks in fields right next to buildings! So that was a fun adventure we had! They are very nice people :)

Ivo and Milene: They are working on their marriage papers still, but they are still doing great! They don't want a big wedding, so we probably won't have a big party, but their baptism will be great.

Romario: We started working with Romario, Joel's friend, again and he is showing some real desire to be baptized. We learned that his sister and his mom are actually members in Cape Verde, so we're working with him. It should be great!

Paula: Paula was a reference from our member, Idalina, she's super cute! She has two daughters and doesn't know much about religion or the bible, so it's a good experience teaching her. She's very inviting to the missionaries and recognizes that there is something different about us, which is really great to hear.

We had a good week, Sister Landbeck and I are always smiling and laughing together. We talk to a lot of people in the road and we always meet very neat people! I love this work!

I love you all!

Dear Family and Friends,

We got the call last night, Sister Landbeck and I will be staying in Setúbal! Which is awesome! I love it here! The elders that were serving in our ward with us had a whitewash, which means they both left, so now we have two new elders that will also be our zone leaders! It's gonna be a great transfer!

We finally finished watching all of general conference this week and I loved it once again! I especially liked the idea of "Ponderizing" it's definitely something i'm going to apply for the rest of my life! I think it will help a ton. If you guys need some motivation to start "ponderizing" a scripture each week, I'd love it if everyone would send me an email each week with a new scripture! It'd be great!

Ivo and Milene: They are doing great! Still coming to church, we finished their teaching record this week and now we're just waiting for their wedding to be official so they can be baptized! I love going over to their house to teach them. They are so humble and so willing to learn everything. They truly do want to follow the Savior, I have a feeling they will be very strong members.

Joel: Is still doing ok! We're working with him as well!

Marlene: The Sisters started teaching her 2 transfers ago, but they lost contact. We found her again and started teaching her and she has a great desire to change her life and do what's right. She lost her phone this week though, so we haven't had great contact with her, but we keep running into her in the road, which is a huge blessing! The other day we saw her and she pulled out her Book of Mormon from her bag (she had been carrying around her Book of Mormon!!) And showed us what she found in the reading we gave her. She is awesome!

That's about it for this week! I absolutely love being here on the mission, forgetting about myself and my worries and focusing on what others need. I know that I'm where God wants me to be and that He is with me when I'm doing what's right. Sister Landbeck and I are going to have a great transfer!
I love you all!!

Dear family and friends!

We had an amazing and very busy week! Which is great! We went on divisions with the Sister Training Leaders and had a really great experience. We also had interviews with President Tavares, which were also really great, he is a very inspired man.

We also had a wedding on Saturday for some recent converts, it was absolutely beautiful! I had the opportunity to sing as the bride walked down the isle, which was a neat experience. I also sang a special musical number in the middle of the wedding, which was also really fun! I feel really blessed to be able to sing.

Conference this weekend was amazing!! I absolutely love hearing the words of the prophet and apostles. We were all really excited to hear about the new apostles as well, they seem like really inspired men. I'm excited to know them more and hear their words.

Joel is doing good, he's going to finally be able to receive the Holy Ghost this next Sunday after several weeks of waiting! We're excited for him!

Rafael: His mom is having doubts about baptism again, so we will continue to work with them. They are an amazing family who really needs the gospel, we'll continue to work with them, and hopefully they can all enter the waters of baptism together.

I love this work and I'm having a great time in Portugal. I know that this is the true church, I know that this is the work of the Lord. I love being a missionary and I love sharing the gospel!

I love you all!!

Water, Water, and more Water!

Dear Family and Friends!

I have almost no time to email today due to our apartment problems! Haha it's been all good, we've just been coming home to a flood in our apartment almost every day and today the men came to fix it, so Sister Landbeck had to be in our house while they were trying to work out the problem, and now we are very short on time to email! Quick updates on our friends!

Joel: He wasn't able to show up for church yesterday to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, but he'll be able to get it next week. He's doing really well with his scripture study and he always has lot's of questions!

Rafael: We are planning his baptism for this weekend, and his mom and other sister are soon to come. They are a wonderful family who are ready to accept this gospel. They all came to church yesterday, which was a miracle! I'm so happy for them!

Ivo and family: They have their papers for their wedding in process! So we will have a wedding soon and a baptism shortly after! I'm really excited for them to have an eternal family! They have 3 beautiful daughters and one son who's only a month or so old! They are awesome!

That's about all that happened. We had a good week despite the flooding problems! I love serving a mission here and I'm so excited for General Conference this week!
I love you all!!

Dear Family and Friends!

We had a very interesting week!! It started out with an overflowing kitchen sink, causing a huge flood in our apartment which we spent a couple of hours cleaning up! I got a good video of Sister Landbeck freaking out! It was hilarious!! Welcome to Setúbal! Haha but we did see a lot of good things happen as well :)

Joel: Joel was baptized yesterday which was awesome!! We ended up having the baptism later at night because he had somewhere he needed to be in the afternoon, but he was still baptized and it was incredible! He is awesome! It's really amazing to be here to be able to teach people like Joel. He will be a great member.

Ivo and family: They are doing great! They have a meeting this week with the bishop to plan for the wedding so they can get baptized! Ivo also received a blessing yesterday to help him quit smoking. They are doing really well!

Rafael: He's the brother of a recent convert and he's only 8 years old, so it's a little different teaching him but he is so excited to get baptized! We're planning his baptism for the week and we're hoping we can baptize his sister this week as well, Margarita.

Marlene: We started teaching her this week, she was taught 2 or 3 transfers ago and actually had a baptismal date, but then she disappeared. So we are teaching her again, she doens't remember a whole lot, so we're starting from the Restoration with her. She is awesome! She said that she wants to be baptized, so we'll talk about a date this week. I'm excited to continue working with her, she is wonderful!

That's about it for this week! We had a grand adventure with our plumbing problems in our apartment, but it's still great! I'm having so much fun with Sister Landbeck here in Setúbal! We're going to have a great transfer! I love being a missionary here and I love Portugal!
I love you all!

Setúbal!

Someone tied their door shut from the outside.. so they can't open it from the inside.. not really sure about that one.. welcome to Setúbal! :) haha

Dear Family and Friends!
I am absolutely loving Setúbal still! The people we are teaching are doing well and I'm learning a lot with Sister Landbeck! We are both still pretty new in the mission, but we never stop smiling because we love what we're doing and we know the Lord is with us!

Joel and Romario: Joel was taught everything and he passed is interview! He is so ready to be baptized, but he has to go to church at least 2 times and he slept in yesterday, so we'll have his baptism next week and he's hoping that we'll be able to teach Romario so he will want to get baptized this weekend as well. They are awesome and I'm so happy to be teaching them!

Vanda and Rafael: Vanda has decided that she's content with her religion right now and doesn't want to change, but she is still willing to let us teach Rafael (her 8-year-old son) and he is very excited to be baptized. I'm excited to teach them!

Ivo and Marlene: They are doing great! They came to church yesterday and had a really great time, they're 11-year-old daughter learned about missionary work in primary and she got a "future missionary" nametag. She was so excited to show us! They are a wonderful family and they're progressing really well!

Carlos: He is awesome! He gave us some African Cachupa this week, it was awesome! He accepts everything we teach him really well. He is having some trouble seeing why baptism is important because he was already baptized in the Catholic church, so we'll continue to work with him. He let us come over and play his organ this week, which was super fun! He rocks!

Sister Landbeck and I are learning a lot together, especially with speaking the language. But our testimonies are growing so much stronger. There are times when I walk away from lessons having no idea what I just said, I knew that it was the Spirit speaking, not me. This work is amazing and I know that the Lord is always with us. We are putting forth our best efforts here and I'm having amazing experiences. I absolutely love serving a mission!!

I love you all!!

I'm currently living in a house with 3 other sisters, it's always a party! The other sister's investigator took us to see a castle and an old Catholic temple right on the edge of a cliff today! It was beautiful!!
